Troia celebrates tradition with the Wheat Festival: two days of peasant rites, art and local flavours

The city of Troia is preparing to fill up with visitors for the traditional Wheat Festival , with which the town of Rosone and the Trojan community – valorising the history, culture and products of the territory – celebrate the end of the harvest and the ancient rites linked to it.
It is, therefore, a real full immersion in the local peasant history, with a sort of open-air museum of traditional agricultural tools and the individual squares that become the theatre of the phases of wheat processing, from threshing to milling through weaning.
Not only that. In fact, this year the Festa del Grano includes several activities, to which the municipal administration has decided to dedicate not one but two days of programming, integrating new interactive initiatives for the many expected visitors, as well as suggestive artistic installations made with wheat (and completely new in the past) that will enrich the streets and views of the town.
We start, then, on Saturday 5 July, at 9 am, with the “Panoramic Bike Ride” (meeting point in Piazza San Secondino) to discover the suggestive landscape of the Dauni Mountains; to then arrive straight to the Agriturismo San Paolo where “C'era una volta” will be held, the countryside workshop for adults and children to discover the ancient methods of wheat harvesting (starting at 9.30 am).
While in the afternoon, at 6.30 pm, it will be the turn of the themed conference organized by Unifg “Cultivating value: wheat between research and innovation”, at the Council Chamber of Palazzo d'Avalos.
Sunday 6th July, instead, will feature an all afternoon and evening programme. At 7 pm, in fact, Piazza Cavalieri will become the location for children who want to try their hand at workshops and games dedicated to wheat.
Subsequently, at 8 pm, in Piazza Episcopio the awards ceremony of the photography contest “Grano in vetrina” will be held, an initiative (making its debut at the event) through which commercial activities will challenge each other with creativity, aiming to create the most beautiful display windows with elegant scenic compositions made of ears of wheat, bundles, baskets and seats made of wheat.
Then, at 8:30 pm, in Viale Regina Margherita there will be plenty of space for traditional flavours with “Acquasale da Guinness” (also gluten free), the longest “snake” (104 metres long) of soaked bread, salt, tomato and onion in the world, which will cross the main street of Troia to be tasted by the festival-goers.
Finally, a musical closing with “Terranostra Folk”, a project by Fondazione La Notte della Taranta (Piazza Episcopio, 9 pm); as well as with the itinerant music by the street artist Mario Ciarmoli.
The 2025 Wheat Festival is an event promoted by the Municipality of Troia; Pro Loco Aps Troia; Museum of Living Peasant Civilization; University of Foggia; Raemi Viaggi.
