The song, the first Italian version of a track from Big Science and granted by Laurie Anderson herself, previews the new album of unreleased material by the Sicilian singer-songwriter and musician, to be released on Tuesday 3 June with Artist First distribution, a work that falls within the Avant-garde genre with the skillful use of electronics always functional to the content and expressiveness of the songs.

“Catapulted into a countdown at the beginning of a journey towards the end – says Simona Norato. It is a logical consequence that we did not observe, we had sworn to follow a rule that we then transgressed. And now while everything is falling apart there is no pilot, but we are not alone”.

The video for From the air (Nessun pilota) is directed by French artist and filmmaker Clementine Roy. The director chooses the song by Laurie Anderson, in the Italian version by Simona Norato to narrate the inexorable perpetual motion of an existential descent. Following the intuition of the scenario proposed by Kessler syndrome (1978), a swarm of space debris in exponential growth orbits and reigns around the earth, the legacy of a scouting expedition in the name of progress. A woman appears, silhouetted against the sky, and with a mocking and severe air, dictates instructions for the beginning of a sudden landing, an act of conscience.

Contrasting with this character is another woman, a time traveler, who sits in a cave bathed in amber light, looking toward a possible future.

SIMONA NORATO – ART BIO

A first-generation Palermo native, she began writing songs in 2001 and founded F-male croix (Arezzo Wave 2001, Sala Prove ROCK TV, I-Tim Tour, Giffoni Music Concept, Apocalipse Show by G.Funari, Demo RAI Radio 1, Ivan Graziani Award, Bianca D'Aponte Award. In 2008 she began collaborating with Antonio Dimartino (Cara maestra Abbiamo Perso, Vorrei Non Lasciarsi Mai) with whom she opened the Primo Maggio concert in Piazza San Giovanni in Rome. In 2010 she won Musicultura with Serena Ganci and created both Iotatola (Parla con me by Serena Dandini, Rock in Roma) and Miss Mousse with Antonio Di Martino and Carmelo Graceffa. Her solo debut with the album 'La fine del mondo' was in 2014. In 2015 she joined Cesare Basile as a multi-instrumentalist with Enrico Gabrielli, Rodrigo D'Erasmo and Manuel Agnelli and recorded two albums with him. album, Tu Prenditi l'amore che vuoi – Targa Tenco 2016 – and U fujutu su nesci chi fa?. On the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the album Tregua, Cristina DonaÌ€ invites her to reinterpret and rearrange Le solite cose (Tregua 1997-2017 Stelle buone). On tour with the Caminanti di Basile, she treads the Adidas Stage at Primavera Sound in Barcelona. In 2018 she releases her second album Orde di brave figlie. In the same year she joins La Mandria, the seven-piece ensemble created by IOSONOUNCANE for the filming of IRA, the new monumental work by Jacopo Incani written in five languages. Still with Dimartino, in 2019 she takes part in the temporary reunion designed for the Afrodite tour and in the same year plays in the resident ensemble of the television program 'Maledetti Amici Miei', RAI2. In 2021 she collaborates with the director Margherita Ortolani for the staging of 5discorsiXdistruggereMe, a theatrical work in five movements. In 2022 with La Mandria he performs the full version of IRA in theaters in Italy, returning to the stage of Primavera Sound.

In 2023 he joined Diodato's full band.

Clementine Roy – BIO

Clémentine Roy is an artist and filmmaker whose research explores the evolving perceptions of nature, artificiality and speculative fictions in contemporary perception. She offers a vision of a parallel world, creating an opening in the surrounding darkness. Her work searches, invents and builds shelters, alternative histories and joyful practices of micro-resistance. Her practice spans film, photography, social sculpture, publications and curatorial projects. Clémentine is also involved in several collaborative initiatives. Her 2017 film Carcasse was presented at the Berlinische Galerie and selected for several international festivals, including IFFR Rotterdam and RIDM Montréal. Their latest film Burnt Orange was selected for the competition at Cinema du Réel in 2024 and was presented at festivals such as Sicilia Queer and Duisburg Filmwoche.
