Schlein: «The right can be defeated». M5S: «But now there is a risk of escalation»

The opposition in Italy is looking at the German vote and its inevitable consequences: on the global scenario, on the European balance and on the political schemes to adopt in the new phase we are going through.
For example, what does Elly Schlein say about the possible grand coalition between the Popular Party and the Social Democrats? "We'll see what majority will be formed," the secretary of the Democratic Party remains vague. Then she analyzes the results, taking note of the defeat of the "traffic light majority" led by Scholz: "There was a large turnout, the highest since the 1990s, and a demand for change," says Schlein. "The outgoing government of the SPD, Greens and liberals was defeated." And she takes the opportunity to reiterate her line to contain Giorgia Meloni. "The material conditions of people had a great impact on the vote: inflation, high energy prices, business difficulties, the economic recession," she says. "The right has the drive of Trump and Musk but they are not unbeatable. We will not beat them by chasing them but by dragging them where they do not know how to provide answers. Here in Italy, in particular, on the economic and social level."
In the M5S area, the German outcome takes on a different nuance. Giuseppe Conte, challenging the sensibilities of his new allies in the European Parliament of The Left, had chosen as interlocutor of his constituent assembly of the new five-star course precisely that Sahra Wagenknecht who is the great loser of the elections. The "conservative left" of the Bsw has tickled the post-ideological soul of the 5S, given that Conte also said several times in recent months that he is against any hypothesis (not advanced by any party in the field, in truth) of "indiscriminate reception" and given that his people are preparing to support the proposals of the Cgil in the next spring referendums but glossing over the question that asks to shorten the time to obtain Italian citizenship.
But the M5S is expressing more concerns on the war front. The Brussels delegation, in particular, highlights that with a future presidency of Friedrich Merz, there could be a further escalation on the Russian-Ukrainian front. "The well-known positions of the future chancellor - says for example the MEP Danilo Della Valle - in favor of sending Taurus missiles, do not leave much hope". Roberto Fico's words sound different. "Europe must be a balancer with respect to the new US posture - claims the former president of the chamber - The German elections will bring Merz to the chancellery. And he also said that we must be independent, something that Meloni is unable to do because she is always under American traction".
For Avs, Angelo Bonelli points the finger at Musk's role in supporting the far right: "Never in the history of European democracy has there been such massive and direct interference by a technology magnate - claims the spokesperson for Europa Verde - And yet, despite this interference, Musk was defeated: there will be no government with AfD". Nicola Fratoianni also expresses alarm at the growth of "forces of extremist, xenophobic, neo-fascist and neo-Nazi nationalism like the AfD".
On the other hand, the secretary of the Italian Left continues, «the good thing is that the Linke, the German left, which was considered to be in great crisis and instead obtained an extraordinary result, becoming the first party among the youngest, also doubled its votes». For the secretary of the Communist Refoundation Party Maurizio Acerbo, the Linke was awarded «as the most consistently anti-fascist party, after a campaign strongly characterized by the social question, siding with the working class and not with billionaires. The collapse of the SPD, on the other hand, should induce European socialists, including the PD, to definitively break with their neoliberal and warmongering policies».
