Milan gripped by smog: still terrible air

In Milan, you can't breathe and the air quality is terrible. On Monday, February 24, the Arpa monitoring stations recorded concentrations of fine dust well above the limits set at 50 micrograms per cubic meter, with an average of Pm10 equal to 95 µg/m³ under the Madonnina.
The distribution of fine dust varies depending on the area of the city: 115 µg/m³ in Viale Marche, 94 in Città Studi, 99 in Via Senato and 110 in Verziere. Even outside Milan the situation is not improving: in Cassano d'Adda 92 µg/m³ were recorded, while in Turbigo and Magenta the monitoring stations detected 78 and 77 µg/m³ respectively.
For the moment, no anti-smog measures foreseen by the Lombardy Region Air Protocol have been activated. The stop should have been triggered on Wednesday, after five consecutive days with values above the threshold, but the regional technicians have decided to wait, believing that the incoming rain could reduce the concentrations of fine particles in the air.
“It is irresponsible not to inform the population - thundered Carlo Monguzzi, a Green city councilor, in a note -. The alarm threshold for PM10 is 50, now we are more than double. Serious prevention measures are needed, but at least information on the health advice of the ATS must be given to citizens. The mayor is responsible for the health of the citizens. Now let's hope that this drizzle helps a little. It is absurd to always hope for rain”.
