H&M in Piazza Duomo evacuated: one floor filled with smoke

First the smoke, then the siren of the fire alarm system and the intervention of the firefighters. The H&M in Piazza Duomo in Milan was evacuated in the late afternoon of Monday, February 24. The evacuation was necessary because the basement of the store (where the warehouse is located) was invaded by smoke.
The alarm was raised shortly before 7:00 p.m., as reported by via Messina. Six teams from different Milanese commands are working on the spot. According to what MilanoToday has learned, there is no flame inside the shop. The smoke, according to what has leaked out, would have been caused by the combustion of some papers present in the shaft under a road grate, combustion that could have been accidentally triggered by some cigarette butts.
The firefighters, however, are working to identify the point from which the alarm was raised by the fire control units. The building above the shop has not been evacuated.
