Fishing vessel sinks off Gargano, captain dead. He had left Termoli

A fishing boat of the Termoli flotilla, the Normandy, sank off the coast of Gargano for reasons not yet clarified. The captain, a 58-year-old from Bisceglie, died while two other crew members were rescued.

As far as we know, the vessel was about five miles off the coast between Capojale and the Tremiti Islands, when it had an engine failure and the captain raised the alarm with the coast guard. But a few minutes later the fishing boat sank.

Coast Guard patrol boats from Termoli and Vieste arrived on site and the personnel managed to save the other two people who were on board.

Investigations are underway to establish the exact dynamics of the incident.
