Earthquake in Triennale: 110 professionals ask for Stefano Boeri's suspension

Suspend star architect Stefano Boeri from the presidency of the Triennale. This is what 110 professionals from Milan (and beyond) are asking for. On Monday, February 24, they sent a letter to the Triennale Foundation, the Ministry of Culture, the Municipality, the Region, and the Chamber of Commerce. The request was made after the investigating judge of the Milan court on Tuesday, February 18 banned Boeri from participating in architectural competitions as a commissioner or competitor.
The measure of the investigating judge is a consequence of the accusations leveled against him by the prosecutors regarding the 2022 tender for the project for the Beic , the European Library of Information and Culture of Porta Vittoria, a project worth 8.6 million euros. A tender that - according to the prosecution - would have been tainted by serious irregularities. Boeri and the architect Cino Zucchi, would have recognized in advance the winning competitors and, again according to the prosecution, would have falsely certified that they were not in conflict of interest, disturbing the public tender.
In the letter, the professionals referred to the decision taken by the Milanese judiciary, but also underlined that "even without going into the merits of the legal nature of the Triennale Foundation and the civil and administrative nature of the contracts in progress, in the current state of affairs such interdictory measures appear to make the president's position in conflict with the Code of Ethics of the Triennale Foundation, based on principles of 'clarity and transparency, compliance with the law and internal regulations, fair competition'". The request is clear: "The undersigned ask the institutions in question to take action to suspend the president in office, in the interest of the Triennale Foundation and its members, and in compliance with its Code of Ethics".
Among the 110 signatories of the letter are the urban planner Sergio Brenna, the painter Guido Lodigiani, the economist Marco Vitale, the former councilor for Mobility of the Albertini Council Giorgio Goggi, the journalist Luca Beltrami Gadola and the architects Lorenzo Degli Esposti and Amedeo Bellini. For the moment it is not clear what the response of the institutions will be.
