Earthquake in Naples, a strong magnitude 4.0 tremor in the Campi Flegrei area: fear and people on the streets due to the quake.

The shock

A strong earthquake struck the Campi Flegrei and Naples area on Friday morning. The quake, with a magnitude of 4.0 and its epicenter between the municipalities of Naples and Pozzuoli , was recorded by the INGV seismographs at 9:14 a.m. and at a depth of 2.5 kilometers along the coast of Bagnoli Dazio.
There is widespread fear among the civilian population, with people reported on the streets in several neighborhoods of the capital. This is yet another strong seismic event to hit the Phlegraean Fields and the Campania capital: the tremor that occurred at 12:47 PM on June 30th had a magnitude of 4.6, the same magnitude as the one recorded on the night of March 13th, the most powerful in the 40 years since the phenomenon was first scientifically measured.

Approximately ten tremors have been recorded so far during the seismic swarm , explain the INGV technicians. So far, despite the fear, no damage to property or people has been reported .
To allow for the necessary technical checks, EAV, the public transport company of the Campania Region, has interrupted rail traffic on the Cumana and Circumflegrea lines , the two lines that connect the center of Naples with the municipalities of Campi Flegrei.
The Federico II University of Engineering in Fuorigrotta was also evacuated, as happened after previous strong tremors; the university was cleared for safety reasons.
