Tragedy at work in Carpino . A 58-year-old worker, Matteo Di Perna, died after falling from scaffolding under construction in the center of the Gargano town. The man, who was working on the facade of a building, fell from a height of approximately four meters, landing on the balcony below.

The rescue efforts

The accident occurred in broad daylight while the worker was assembling the structure alone. Emergency medical services responded immediately, having to break down the door of the apartment adjacent to the balcony where he had fallen, which remained closed and unoccupied. The worker was transported in serious condition to the Casa Rilievi della Sofferenza hospital in San Giovanni Rotondo, where doctors had reserved their prognosis due to the severity of his injuries and fractures. Despite the efforts of the medical staff, he died during the night.

Following the sad news, Carpino's mayor, Rocco di Brina, said: "I express my personal sorrow and that of the entire community for a man and a worker known and loved by all."

The investigations

Carabinieri and Spesal inspectors arrived at the scene of the tragedy to conduct surveys and check the safety conditions of the construction site. As required by law, the area has been placed under lockdown and the body will be examined. Investigators will determine the circumstances of the fall and verify that all required safety measures were in place.
