"You can't make a political alliance without this". From the heart of the Democratic Party a slap to Schlein, it's chaos

To throw the already fragile "broad field" of the left into panic, the varied positions on wars were not enough, no, all that was missing was the question of military spending. The debate that has ignited in the European Union - with the decision to separate them from the stability pact - is bringing out all the contradictions not only between the parties that should build the "joyous war machine 2.0" that should send the current government home, but also within the parties themselves. Or rather, within the Democratic Party. The first to launch the attack with lance in hand was, in the Corsera, the president of Copasir Lorenzo Guerini , a leading figure of the centrist current of the Democratic Party. Guerini sends two warnings to his party. The first concerns Germany where "the classes in difficulty have not seen in the socialists the ability to respond to their fears. This must make the Democratic Party reflect".
Secondly, it concerns future alliances and his words sound very much like a jab directed at Elly Schlein : «It is undeniable that there is a distance in the judgment on the responses to be given to the war of aggression launched by Russia against Ukraine. The reference is to the commemoration of the three years of Russian-Ukrainian war, when the Democratic Party took to the streets with the centrists, but Cinquestelle and Avs were not seen. As for Conte's statements («Trump has unmasked the West's warmongering propaganda») he replies coldly: «This turns the truth upside down, soon someone will say that it was Ukraine that invaded Russia. I firmly oppose this distortion of reality». Translated: dear Elly, are you sure you want to ally yourself with these people?

The former prime minister and former European commissioner Paolo Gentiloni took it upon himself to add weight to Omnibus on La7, speaking about the increase in military spending: «Europe must be able to defend itself alone, we need an increase in military spending aimed at common defense». Then, recalling the well-being achieved with 80 years of peace, he explains: «If someone questions it, I think we must have the strength to defend ourselves, in a world in which we must get it out of our heads that the Americans will defend us. If we don't understand this - insists Gentiloni - in my opinion, very dark times await us . I hope that we go in a direction not only of increasing military spending, because if we care about our democracy we must also protect it. We need a common defense and therefore common financing».
Then, referring to that part of the left that is crying scandal, he comments: "Someone says: oh God, rearmament! I say that if we want to protect peace we must defend it, because the autocracies are close to Europe". Gentiloni also talks about alliances and he also warns his people: "It is very difficult to have political alliances that ignore the big choices on values, on foreign policy, on the West, on Europe. You can't make a political alliance without this". This vision, however, is echoed by the opposite one of the extreme left, embodied by Nicola Fratoianni : "Europe is in danger - he thunders from his Facebook profile -: yesterday because of the austerity that has strangled the budgets of the States, the salaries and the rights of the citizens; today with the increase in military spending. That it is the Popular Party that is doing it does not surprise me, but that even a part of the Socialist group is following this path makes everything very, very dangerous".
In all this, Elly Schlein's cosmic silence is striking. She spends her days making jokes against the government, but doesn't even try to weigh in on divisive issues. Issues that would risk upsetting the fragile balance that holds together not only the center-left alliance, but also her own party, increasingly divided between the maximalist area embodied by the secretary herself and the centrist-moderate one, increasingly impatient to take on the PD line.
