A "drunk" British woman has been arrested in Germany after becoming violent on board a Jet2 flight to Cyprus. The flight from Manchester to Larnaca was forced to land early after the woman began attacking passengers and crew members. She punched, kicked, insulted and threatened others on board.

Her "violent behaviour" forced an unplanned landing at Cologne Bonn Airport on Thursday night, where she was met by German police. The 41-year-old was described by officers as being "heavily intoxicated" and arrested after the plane landed. She is now due to be deported. Police spokesperson Mathias Kämpfer said: "In consultation with Cologne police, she was taken to the station for further processing and placed in police custody to sober up."

German police issued a warning on the dangers of drinking alcohol before a flight, warning people of the "significantly stronger effect".

The statement read: "Even small amounts [of alcohol] can have a significantly stronger effect than on the ground due to the unique stresses of flying - such as lower air pressure and altered oxygen concentrations.

"Aggressive behaviour not only endangers other passengers but can also severely impair the safety of a flight. The Federal Police therefore urges responsible consumption of alcohol in air travel."

The travel chaos didn't end there though, as the plane was then unable to take off due to a technical issue. Passengers had to wait even longer after the diversion until a replacement plane was found.

This comes after a "drunk" British couple were arrested and hauled away by police in Alicante after boasting to a packed EasyJet flight they were "joining the mile high club".

Minutes later loud noises were heard from the toilets belonging to the intoxicated Brits, according to local reports.

A cabin crew member tried to frantically coax the couple in their 30s out of the cubicle whilst horrified passengers which included families with children looked on in disbelief.

Jet2 has been contacted for comment.
