WNBA: Gabby Williams shines in Los Angeles but gets injured

The Frenchwoman stood out during the Seattle Storm's big win on the Los Angeles Sparks court, before leaving with injuries to her ankle and knee.
Frenchwoman Gabby Williams, who has chosen to stay in the WNBA as EuroBasket begins on Wednesday, once again showed her versatility with 11 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assists and, above all, 8 steals, her franchise record in a single game, during the Seattle Storm's big win on the Los Angeles Sparks court (98-67) on Tuesday in the WNBA.
The 28-year-old Olympic runner-up saw her momentum halted in the third quarter by an injury to her right leg, leaving the field and never returning.
Williams appeared at the press conference with ice packs on her right knee and ankle, and a cold anger toward the referees.
"After two attacks, I asked the referee to pay attention to the level of physical intensity, to my space to land after a jump. They laughed at me. And the next action my ankle turned, like in Dallas, without a flagrant foul," she said.
"My ankle will be okay, but it's starting to get frustrating. I'm attacking the rim, playing physical, and getting fewer than two free throws per game. I don't want to avoid contact. I just hope that the players' health becomes a priority for the referees, rather than their egos."
The Storm largely dominated the Sparks, weighed down by forfeits, notably by their best player Kelsey Plum.
French rookie Dominique Malonga contributed to the Storm's offensive tornado with 7 points and 3 rebounds in just under 13 minutes off the bench.
In Dallas, No. 1 draft pick Paige Bueckers scored 20 points in the Wings' 80-71 victory over the Golden State Valkyries of French player Carla Leite (8 points, 4 assists).
Caitlin Clark also scored 20 points for Indiana against the Connecticut Sun (88-71).
In New York, Sabrina Ionescu blazed a trail with 34 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists, for a Liberty victory against Atlanta (86-81), to which Marine Johannès contributed (2 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists).
