UTMB: a 100% auralpine podium on the TDS

The three dukes of the TDS 2025, considered the wild alternative to the UTMB, are all trail runners from the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
The TDS (acronym for Sur les traces des ducs de Savoie) is the wild race of the UTMB week. Renowned for its technicality, it is a particularly demanding event of 152 kilometers and 9,000 meters of elevation gain.
Since the extension of its route in 2019, the TDS has forged a formidable reputation for its technicality and its legendary passages like the Passeur de Pralognan (a Czech runner fell there and lost his life during the 2021 edition). This year, the field was particularly high and the race experienced unprecedented enthusiasm with +37% of elites at the start, a sign that it is now establishing itself as one of the major events at the world summit of ultra-trail .

For this 2025 vintage, the athletes from Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes have stood out.
Antoine Charvolin, a native of Grenoble and adopted by Annecy, from the ON Trail team (UTMB Index 880), won the TDS in 18h22'17.
He is followed closely behind (less than 6 minutes!) by Gautier Airiau of the Scott / Méribel team (UTMB Index 865) who completes the course in 18h28'04. Third in 2024, he has moved up a notch this year.
Leo Rogaume of Annecy Athletics (UTMB Index 854) made his debut in the big leagues for his first participation in the TDS. He completed the 100% Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes podium in 18h39'21.
After 152 kilometers and 9,000 meters of elevation gain, and more than 18 hours of racing, the gap between the top three is only 17 minutes.
One of the big favorites, the Frenchman Beñat Marmissolle (UTMB Index 878), strong from his victories in the X-Alpine of the Trail Verbier St-Bernard by UTMB and in the 100M of Valhöll Fin del Mundo by UTMB in 2025 (2nd in the Tor des Géants 2024,) long in the leading trio in this TDS, had to abandon.
