Tennis. Davis Cup: Les Bleus with Humbert but without Fils or Moutet to face Croatia

French Davis Cup team captain Paul-Henri Mathieu unveiled this Thursday the list of four players who will face Croatia in the second round of qualifying on September 12 and 13. While the indoor clay court surface could have benefited Corentin Moutet, he is currently not present for the trip to Osijek. Neither is Arthur Fils, the French No. 1 player being injured.

The trip to Osijek, where the hostile Croatian crowd is expected to put pressure on the French team throughout the weekend, could have benefited Corentin Moutet given that this second round of qualifying will be played on indoor clay. The left-hander, who has had some interesting results on clay this season and has performed well in recent weeks , is not on the list.

Like Arthur Fils , the French No. 1 is again injured in the back, a pain which forced him to withdraw before his third round against Andrey Rublev at Roland-Garros.

But there is still a glimmer of hope for those who haven't been called up. " I've chosen to take four players today, but a fifth player will join us later, and changes are also possible between now and September," said Paul-Henri Mathieu. The results of the US Open (August 24-September 7) could be decisive.
