Rugby, Federal 1: Bergerac gets tangled up in the entrance mat
To kick off its season, USB lost at home to Cahors on Saturday night. The fault lies in too many inaccuracies.
US Bergerac got their season off to the worst possible start, losing to French Fédérale 2 champions Cahors on Saturday night on their home turf. At least, in terms of points. Yes, Bergerac lost, but USB showed some interesting moments in sequence. Already in the scrum, where the Périgourdins crushed the Lotois for much of the match. "Yes, but that's not all, the proof," said Rémi Escudier, the forwards coach, after the match.
Bergerac not realistic enoughYet, things started well for Bergerac. On the kickoff, the Cadurciens were guilty of a block and Fauverte opened the scoring (3-0, 1st). Ten minutes later, Golfier equalized. But, overall, the men of the Escudier-Delmas duo held the ball without managing to be dangerous. The proof is in numbers. Twice, the Bergerac forwards earned a penalty touch near the opposing line and, twice, they were dealt a blow. They either lost the ball or made a mistake. There were plenty of lost balls along the way in this first half.
On one of them, Cahors quickly spread the ball and the pocket winger, Da Silva, would finish between the bars (3-10, 19th). Following this, Fauverte touched the woodwork from 40 meters before adjusting the sights (6-10, 22nd). On a ruck in his 40 meters, number 8 Arteil made a run on a small empty side before serving Pradayrol on a plate (6-20, 36th). Just before the break, Fauverte came to reduce the gap on a strong moment finally controlled (13-20).
Catch upIn the second half, there wasn't much in the way of points. USB camped in the opposing camp but didn't capitalize. It wasn't until the end of the match that Tournebize scored Bergerac's second try following poor kicking by Lot and a nice pass from Battistello. A try for nothing, since in the following period, USB made another mistake and gave Golfier the chance to secure the victory for his team on the gong (18-23). For Bergerac, the visit of Tulle on Saturday evening will be an opportunity to make up for lost time.
