RCT starts its season ideally with a victory in Montpellier (17-27)

Pierre Mignoni and his staff had carefully prepared their plan, and Toulon executed it almost naturally by winning on the Montpellier pitch.

A perfect first half

From the first period, the Varois struck hard: three tries signed by Dréan, Mercer and Domon, a clear domination (24-3 at half-time) which quickly stifled any hope of a Montpellier revolt.

After the break, the Hérault players finally woke up and scored their first try (10-24). But their enthusiasm was hampered by a relentless Toulon defense, preventing them from playing for long periods. Toulon, calm despite reduced possession, continued to manage. Domon, once again, widened the gap with his kicks (10-27).

In the final quarter of an hour, Montpellier pushed forward. Taking advantage of Gigashvili's temporary exclusion, the home side reduced the deficit thanks to their new fullback, Banks (17-27). But despite their efforts, they were unable to secure a third try, which would have earned them a defensive bonus point.

In the end, Toulon secured a solid victory, built on a benchmark first half. It now remains to be confirmed next Saturday at the Mayol Stadium (9 p.m.), against Castres, narrowly beaten at home by Pau (15-17).
