Skip the adLiverpool will not be able to count on their manager for the next two league matches. Liverpool manager Arne Slot will not be on the bench against Newcastle in the Premier League on Wednesday night , having been suspended for the Reds' next two matches due to his behaviour against Everton, the English Football Association announced on Wednesday.
"The Liverpool head coach acted inappropriately and/or used insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour towards the match referee and an assistant referee after the end of the match," the FA argued.
On February 12, Everton equalized in the dying moments of the Mersey derby (2-2), causing chaotic scenes on the benches. Slot and his assistant Sipke Hulshoff were sent off after the final whistle for protesting to the referee about James Tarkowski's equalizing goal, which was awarded after VAR intervention.
"Arne Slot has acknowledged the facts and the disciplinary committee has handed him a two-match bench suspension and a fine of £70,000," the federation continued. "I should have acted differently after the match, but it is an emotional sport and sometimes people make bad decisions and that is what I did," the Dutchman regretted two days after the match.
Arne Slot will also miss the match against Southampton on March 8 but not the first leg against PSG in the Champions League round of 16 on March 5 , as his suspension only applies to domestic competitions.
