Men's EuroBasket 2025: France to lead the group if...

Without its big NBA stars, France sets out to conquer the European title.

The basketball world will be buzzing from August 27th to September 14th, 2025, with an intense group stage followed by a knockout round that will lead to the grand final. This competition takes place in four different countries: Latvia, Cyprus, Poland, and Finland. The group stage will be played in these four host cities, while the final phase, including the quarterfinals, semifinals, and grand final, will take place in Riga, Latvia. Without NBA stars like Wembanyama and Gobert, the Blues are moving forward with measured ambition, but still hope to bring home a medal.

After a perfect start against Belgium and especially against NBA star Luka Doncic's Slovenia, the Blues stumbled quite badly against Israel in the third match of the group stage. This put a lot of things into question before a final match against Poland, which promises to be decisive for the quarterfinals. "It will be like a final. We will have to be ready, rest. We have one day to prepare. We will be on the attack and we will show a better face, that's for sure," explained Elie Okobo before adding: "We will have to recover." Poland now leads the group, being the only undefeated team in the latter with three wins in as many matches played. To hope to finish first, the Blues will now have to beat the Poles by at least 25 points this Tuesday to be ahead of Poland and Israel on the point average, before the final day against the weakest opponent in the group, Iceland.
