Marseille striker Mason Greenwood close to making a return to Jamaican national team

Although he hasn't played for the national team since September 2020 (his one and only England appearance, against Iceland), Mason Greenwood could play for another country again. According to the BBC , the Olympique de Marseille striker has obtained his Jamaican passport and could therefore wear the jersey of his home country. All it would take is a switch from the English Football Association (FA) to the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) for Greenwood to be allowed to participate in next month's World Cup qualifiers against Bermuda and Trinidad and Tobago.
This change would allow OM to have a non-EU spot available - when a player does not have a passport from a member state of the European Union, the European Economic Area, or when his country does not have an association or cooperation agreement with the EU. Currently, there are four players in the Marseille club out of the four authorized by the LFP regulations: Mason Greenwood, Igor Paixao, Facundo Medina, and Amir Murillo.
As a reminder, changes in sporting nationality have been possible for several years, and a new FIFA rule applies if the player has fewer than three caps. The Marseille player's decision was also influenced by the appointment of Steve McLaren to the Jamaican bench in August. He had known Greenwood at Manchester United and encouraged him to make this decision.
