Golf, UNSS: the Dordogne welcomed the French championships

Dordogne hosted the French UNSS Golf Championship for the first time. From May 12th to 16th, it brought together 250 young people (players, referees, and young coaches) from 54 academic delegations. And even more...

Middle and high school students from all over France, plus delegations from Réunion Island and the Casablanca International High School (Morocco), were in the Dordogne last week to compete for the UNSS national golf titles in various categories. They stayed at the Le Grand Dague campsite in Atur, where the Périgord meals, provided by the organic kitchens of LP Léonard-de-Vinci and Anne-Frank College, and mini-evening concerts were unanimously acclaimed. A great satisfaction for the UNSS 24 and its director, Guillaume Avrillas, who rose to the organizational challenge.

On Tuesday, starting at 8 a.m., under the educational supervision of a six-member national commission (three from the French Golf Federation and the same number from the UNSS), a federal referee, and with 35 PE teachers and 65 young UNSS officials present on the course, the middle school students set off on the Périgueux golf course. The 29 academic finalists competed until Wednesday. On Thursday, starting at 8:30 a.m., it was the high school students' turn to take to the greens. Their goal was already to reach the semi-finals and finals on Friday. The Périgord high school students from Léonard-de-Vinci did just that, at home, by finishing second in shared sport.

At the individual level, twelve young players, already displaying indexes of 6 to 10, attracted attention. And the players weren't the only ones to reach the podiums, as 40 young officials (21 referees, 19 coaches) were confirmed and received their diplomas. Eight young referees, including Antoine Dussel and Laure Mallet from Périgueux, will be part of the refereeing corps at the French Open, from September 18 to 21.
