FIFA President Gianni Infantino to be questioned as a suspect by the Swiss courts

The great architect of the new 32-team format of the Club World Cup , whose final will be held on Sunday, July 13 in New York, Gianni Infantino must have paid little attention, from the United States, to a legal decision concerning him in Switzerland. As Le Monde has learned, the cantonal court of Fribourg issued a ruling against him on June 16, ordering the local public prosecutor to question him as a defendant, like two executives of the International Football Federation (FIFA), for "slanderous denunciation."
It all started with an article in Le Monde in November 2020 , which reported the existence of a "complaint" filed against Mr. Infantino with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), of which the FIFA president is a member.
Sport 7, a Swiss company specialising in sports management, asked the IOC Executive Board to immediately open an investigation into Mr Infantino with a view to his exclusion and to suspend him provisionally in the meantime, "as provided for in Articles 3.8 and 59 of the Olympic Charter" .
