Car drives into crowd before Espanyol-FC Barcelona derby, knocking down and injuring several people
The match was briefly interrupted in the eighth minute to inform spectators that "the accident that took place outside the stadium" was "under control" and had not caused any "serious injuries," an AFP journalist noted.
In videos circulating on social media, relayed by the Spanish media, a white vehicle can be seen driving towards Espanyol supporters gathered in front of the stadium.
According to the Spanish press, several spectators in the stands behind Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia left the stadium in protest, believing that the match should not have been played in these circumstances.
Barça, league leaders ahead of their eternal rivals, Real Madrid, can mathematically be crowned champions for the 28th time in their history if they win away to their neighbors.
