Board games: how do these essential family moments come about?

Over 30 million game boxes are sold each year in France, while there are also over 400 board game clubs. While they seem like an integral part of social and family ties on a rainy Sunday afternoon, how do these entertaining games come about?

At the very beginning of the creative process, board game creators need inspiration above all else. " It can happen in the middle of the night and unfortunately afterward it's impossible to go back to sleep ," confides Olivier Mahy, a board game designer whose success allows him to make a living from his creations. Once the right idea is found, you need a publisher like Gigamic, one of the biggest on the market. Over the course of a year, Gigamic receives 2,000 games and selects only 200, ultimately making a selection of seven games that will be published after being tested extensively.
