2024 Olympics: Budget surplus revised upwards to 76 million euros

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games Organizing Committee (COJO) has revised its budget surplus upwards to around €76 million, compared to the €27 million announced in December, organizers announced on Sunday, June 8, just days before the closing of the accounts.
"The developments have allowed us to present an improvement, with a consolidated figure of around 76 million euros of surplus for Paris 2024," Tony Estanguet , president of the Organising Committee, told a few journalists.
According to Fabrice Lacroix, financial director of Paris 2024, the budget for organizing the Games is 4.494 billion euros for revenue and 4.418 billion for expenses (in the bid file, the budget was estimated at 3.2 billion and was revised to 3.8 billion in 2018).
The OCOG's budget revenues are almost entirely private, relying on sponsorships, funding from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and ticket sales. On the public side (state and local authorities), the still-incomplete amount of public costs, notably covering part of the construction of Olympic facilities, is listed at €2.46 billion in a 2025 budget document.
But the first president of the Court of Auditors, Pierre Moscovici , had mentioned in March 2024 a public cost of "between 3 and 5 billion" .
The announcement of the increased surplus comes just days before the Cojo board meeting on June 17, which will close the accounts and hand over to a liquidator with a view to dissolving the organizing committee. The final surplus will be "in excess" of €76 million, Tony Estanguet said.
The CFO said the increase in surplus from €27 million to €76 million was due to the closure of negotiations and other adjustments to contracts with suppliers, as well as some "good news" such as exchange rate movements, investment results, ticketing revenue and licensed products.
Tony Estanguet emphasized that the €76 million surplus "is money that goes to sport" : 20% will be donated to the French Olympic Committee (CNOSF), 60% to the Paris 2024 endowment fund, managed by the CNOSF, the Paralympic Committee, the City of Paris , and the Île-de-France region, among others. The remaining 20% will go to the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The OCOG also plans to contribute €5 million to the return of the Olympic cauldron to the Tuileries Gardens in Paris for the next three summers.
