Retailleau/Wauquiez, the standoff at the head of the LR

The two rivals, Bruno Retailleau and Laurent Wauquiez, are increasing their media presence, one week before the vote for the presidency of the Les Républicains party. The Minister of the Interior held his major end-of-contest rally on Sunday, May 11, while Laurent Wauquiez made a number of proposals and advocated a rally of the right in the broadest sense.
They have one week to convince. Laurent Wauquiez and Bruno Retailleau are throwing their last efforts into the mix and sticking to their strategy. Today, during his final rally in front of the activists, the Minister of the Interior quickly dismissed his rival's name. The favorite in the election, the Vendée native ran a campaign based on his status as minister.
In terms of their platform, the two share the same ideas. Their favorite theme: security. Both criticize a welfare society and share the same vision on immigration. But on the OQTF issue, Laurent Wauquiez goes further. Last April, he discussed their return to Saint Pierre and Miquelon. This shocked all political parties.
