In Lyon, Gérard Collomb honored at the foot of the community he founded

Place du Lac, at the foot of the Lyon Metropolis, was renamed Place Gérard Collomb this Friday, June 20, the date on which the former mayor of Lyon would have celebrated his 78th birthday.
He already had a train station named after him, in the neighborhood where he built his political figure, which he tirelessly walked. Lyon's most illustrious mayor now has a square named after him, at the foot of the unique community in France of which he was " the architect, inventor, and promoter ," recalled Lyon's mayor, Grégory Doucet.
Place du Lac, in Lyon's 3rd arrondissement, was officially renamed Place Gérard Collomb this Friday. Already in June 2024, the name of the former mayor of Lyon, who would have celebrated his 78th birthday on June 20, was added to the name of the Gare de Vaise station. Having suffered from cancer for several years, Gérard Collomb died on November 25, 2023.
" You are honoring the memory of a committed, visionary man (...) You are giving him the opportunity to maintain a presence and a perspective on the present and future of the city ," said Thomas Collomb, son of Gérard Collomb.
" The Lyon Metropolis is his work. He gave it democratic legitimacy with direct suffrage ," recalled the Green Party president of the Metropolis, Bruno Bernard. He added: " Renaming the Place du Lac is ultimately a no-brainer. "
