"Around 30,000 people" out of the 280,000 inhabitants of French Polynesia have already used methamphetamines, according to the president of this overseas community, Moetai Brotherson (Tavini, various left). He announced a plan to fight this drug, the same day as the State authorities. Who do not want to abandon the fight against cannabis.

"Pakalolo" (brainburner, in the Hawaiian language) is well established in French Polynesia. Although illegal, this local cannabis is found everywhere, sold in matchboxes or rolled in small doses in aluminum foil, for less fortunate consumers. Regular smokers often grow one or two plants in their garden or on their terrace. Large producers, for their part, can line up several hundred plants behind a hedge of banana trees. More than 7,400 plants were destroyed in the first half of February. According to the gendarmerie, the destruction of plants on the small Polynesian islands represents more than a third of all seizures on the national territory.
