First death linked to extreme heat in Montreal

The first death linked to the extreme heat wave of recent days in Montreal has been reported to public health authorities.
The Regional Public Health Department received a report following its call for vigilance issued to various emergency rooms and paramedics . It emphasizes that other reports could be added in the coming days.
Spokesperson Danny Raymond emphasized that "no heat stroke has been reported, and the volume of emergency room admissions and hospitalizations is within normal limits."
The oppressive heat has persisted since Sunday in southern Quebec, with temperatures exceeding 33 degrees Celsius and approaching 40 with the humidex.
More than 800 homes visitedMoreover, a total of 14 teams of prevention agents from the Montreal Fire Department (SIM) were dispatched on Tuesday to go door-to-door in more than 800 homes where vulnerable people live.
"We do this to ensure their well-being, we give them advice on how to stay hydrated and we check whether they have access to air conditioning," explains prevention officer Stéphanie Grisé, who Le Journal accompanied on Tuesday afternoon.
