Opposed to the free trade agreement between the European Union and Mercosur countries, France is intensifying its diplomatic efforts. On May 16, Agriculture Minister Annie Genevard traveled to Hungary and Austria in the hope of forming a blocking minority.
It's a race against time. Since December 6, 2024, the date of the signing in Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay, of the agreement between Europe and the Latin Americans of Mercosur by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, France has been multiplying diplomatic initiatives.
