Following the recall of more than 40 batches of cheese due to suspected Listeria contamination, health authorities announced in a press release that they had identified 21 cases of listeriosis, including two deaths, which could be "possibly linked" to their consumption. Here's an update.
• Cheeses from the same company, sold until August 9These cheeses, including Camembert, goat's cheese, Gorgonzola, and Brie, are sold at most major retailers, such as Leclerc, Auchan, Lidl, Intermarché, and Carrefour. The various recalls of these more than 40 batches were made between Monday and Tuesday, according to the government website Rappel Conso, which lists them . These include, among others, Cœur Complice and Bûche de chèvre from Carrefour Classic, and Coulommiers from the Le Paturon brand, sold at Aldi.
Most of these products come from the same company, the Chavegrand cheese factory, located in Creuse, the site indicates.

These cheeses were marketed "until August 9, 2025" by the cheese factory throughout "the entire national territory" , particularly in supermarkets, as well as "internationally" , Public Health France and the Ministry of Agriculture announced in a press release published on Tuesday.
• 21 cases of listeriosis identified, including 18 since JuneAuthorities have identified 21 cases of listeriosis, including two deaths, establishing a "possible link" with the consumption of these pasteurized milk cheeses. "Investigations conducted by Public Health France [...] led to the identification at the beginning of August of convergent epidemiological and microbiological elements, establishing a possible link between these "21" cases of listeriosis," including 18 since June, "and the consumption of pasteurized milk cheeses produced by the Chavegrand company," the authorities' press release states. Two of these cases led to deaths.
The identified cases of listeriosis concern people aged 34 to 95.
• Call for vigilance in the face of possible symptoms of listeriaListeriosis, caused by Listeria monocytogenes, is the second leading cause of death from food poisoning, with a few dozen deaths per year in France. Its incubation period can be up to eight weeks. This bacterium is particularly dangerous for pregnant women. In its so-called "invasive" form, listeriosis is particularly deadly: around a quarter of patients die from it, for example, due to neurological complications such as meningitis.
