Bonuses are increasing, as are bosses' salaries

The increase in insurance company salaries is provoking anger among policyholders, who are paying more and more.
Almost every year, it's the same old story: health insurance premiums are skyrocketing in Switzerland. At the same time, the salaries of industry executives are rising. The ranking recently published by "Blick" shows that Sanitas CEO Andreas Schönenberger once again tops the list , earning an annual salary of over CHF 976,000 last year.
The head of the country's second-largest health insurance company, CSS, occupies second place. Philomena Colatrella's salary reached 851,678 francs, around 56,000 francs more than the previous year. Roman Sonderegger, CEO of Helsana, occupies third place with an annual salary of almost 800,000 francs. He received a raise of around 60,000 francs between 2023 and 2024.
Felix Schneuwly, a health insurance expert at Comparis, criticizes these salary levels and expects the people to teach these leaders a lesson. "At the latest, during the next vote on the single health insurance fund, this lack of sensitivity will backfire on them," he believes.
However, the impact of salaries on premiums remains small, Blick notes. Politicians have long debated capping salaries for health insurance fund executives. The Federal Parliament has not yet been able to agree on a proposal to this effect.
