The United States will expel transgender people from the military within 30 days unless they are granted a special waiver, the Pentagon said in a memo released Wednesday. “Service members who have a diagnosis or history of gender dysphoria, or who exhibit symptoms consistent with gender dysphoria, will be removed from active duty,” the memo, released as part of a legal proceeding, said. Waivers may be granted “on a case-by-case basis” “provided there is a compelling government interest” in retaining certain members of the military, the memo said.
