Mourning and shock in football: 13-year-old boy collapsed during training and died suddenly

Club Atlético San Lorenzo is in mourning after the death of a promising young player, who lost his life during a youth training session. Amadeo Ruiz collapsed and died suddenly.

Amadeo Ruiz, 13, was training with the pre-youth team in Argentina when he collapsed at the end of practice in the Las Flores neighborhood. Coaches attempted to assist him with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), but the boy died suddenly, explained Eduardo Colazzo, the coordinator of the Córdoba club.

"I'm here like every day. I'm the youth team coordinator, and I'm talking to each kid to see how they're doing. Just yesterday, their youth team was practicing on the 11-a-side pitch," Colazzo said after the tragic death.

"Amadeo was standing and collapsed without warning," added the coordinator, who explained that the teachers activated the relevant protocol in the midst of the unfortunate incident.

For now, neither the family nor the Argentine authorities have revealed the cause of death of the minor, who played in San Lorenzo's youth system. The Liga Córdoba de Fútbol sent a heartfelt message of condolence to the minor's family. "The Liga Córdoba de Fútbol expresses its deepest sorrow to Club Atlético San Lorenzo over the passing of Amadeo Ruiz, an 8th division player. We extend our most sincere condolences to his family, friends, teammates, and the entire San Lorenzo community in this moment of great sadness. We offer our prayers for Amadeo's eternal rest."

San Lorenzo also expressed its condolences to the death of one of its most promising players. "With deep regret, Club Atlético San Lorenzo announces the passing of Amadeo Ruiz , a player in our 8th Division, which occurred on Thursday, September 11, 2025. In this moment of profound sorrow, the institution expresses its deepest condolences to his family, friends, teammates, and loved ones, as well as to the entire San Lorenzo community, which today is moved and saddened by this irreparable loss," it said.
