After falling in four Liga MX Femenil finals, América will be striving for its third title in the category in the current Apertura 2025 tournament. To this end, it has restructured its coaching staff, led by Ángel Villacampa, and has acquired top-level reinforcements, said sporting director Claudia Carrión, who also noted that another of the team's goals is to raise the institution's name to the top, both at home and abroad . In a press conference held at the Coapa stadium before Sunday's game against Querétaro, the board announced that the Spanish coach's new assistant coach will be Ana Galindo, former coach of the Mexican U-20 women's national team and with extensive experience in national soccer. They also introduced the four new signings that have joined the team so far: Bruna Vilamala, Jordan Brewster, Annie Karich, and Marissa García. We remain fully motivated. The project with Ángel has been a journey of much learning and growth. While we haven't won the title, you've seen it in the way we play, in our identity, and in how we've continually raised the bar. We remain fully committed to contributing and achieving that championship , Carrión said.

Cruz Azul revived the ghosts of the past yesterday and suffered the second-worst defeat in its history after being humiliated 7-0 by the Seattle Sounders of Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States in its debut in the 2025 Leagues Cup.

After that 7-0 thrashing of América in the 2022 Liga MX Apertura tournament, La Máquina, led by Argentine Nicolás Larcamón, fell again by the same score in the duel held at Lumen Field, in Washington.

After a scoreless first half, but with some close calls by the sky-blue team, the American team opened the scoring in the 48th minute through Yeimar Gómez. From that moment on, the home side began a cascade of goals. Obed Vargas (50), Jesús Ferreira (58), Osaze de Rosario (69), Pedro de la Vega (76 and 90+1) and Nouhou Tolo (88) scored the goals to complete the historic fall.

The result could have been more significant, as Ferreira scored two more goals that were ruled out for offside.

With this painful defeat, Cruz Azul sealed its elimination from the tournament, as even winning its next two matches will prevent it from securing qualification.

Santos Laguna lost 2-1 to the Colorado Rapids, while the Xolos de Tijuana fell 5-2 to the LA Galaxy.
