20-year-old driver Borja Gómez dies in an accident on the Magny-Cours circuit in France.

Twenty-year-old driver Borja Gómez died Thursday after an accident while training on the Magny-Cours circuit in France. According to sources from the San Javier City Council, where the young driver was from, he was hit by another teammate he shared the track with, who was unable to avoid him when he fell to the ground.
He began his racing career in 2014 in the Spanish Minimotard Championship, moving up to Supermotard and finishing third in the Kawasaki Cup in 2019. In 2021, he was the Spanish Superbike Champion in the Supersport category, and in 2022, he finished runner-up in the national Superbike 1000 class.
In 2022, he made his Moto2 World Championship debut, replacing Jorge Navarro at the Malaysian Grand Prix. His strong performance gave him a second chance at the Valencia Grand Prix, where he finished in the points. He was now competing in the European Stock 1000 Series with the Honda Laglisee team and was leading the standings after winning the Aragon Grand Prix last weekend.
"It is with deep sorrow that we regret to announce that Borja Gómez passed away on the Magny-Cours circuit after a serious accident in the first free practice session of the European Stock Championship.
Beyond his exceptional talent as a driver, we will remember Borja as the wonderful person he was. His kindness and smile will live on forever. We will always carry him in our hearts. On behalf of the entire Laglisse Team, we extend our condolences to all his family and friends during this difficult time.
"We love you, Borja. Rest in peace," his team said in a statement.
