Motorist plows into spectators at Day of the Dead parade in Moroleón (Video)

MOROLEÓN, Gto. (apro).- The driver of a sedan caused an accident during the Maturé parade, held in honor of the Day of the Dead in downtown Moroleón, after ignoring the tapes, cones and other signs placed by the municipal government to close the streets.
The incident left five people injured, none seriously. One of the victims suffered a broken collarbone, while the others sustained minor bumps and bruises. No minors were among those injured.
Fernando Sánchez, brother of Mayor Alma Denisse Sánchez Barragán, reported that the parade had not yet reached Morelos Street when the driver lost control and crashed his vehicle into the sidewalk, where several people were waiting for the contingents to pass.
Videos circulating on social media show the car on the sidewalk and the moment when members of the Municipal Police detain the person responsible, who was placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor.
Civil Protection personnel arrived immediately on motorcycles to provide first aid to the injured people.
“Let’s hope justice is served for this man’s gross recklessness,” Fernando Sánchez declared in a live broadcast. The mayor has not yet issued a statement, but her brother visited the hospital where the victims are being treated.
Despite the accident, the parade did not stop, Sánchez himself confirmed.
The Maturé event celebrates its fifth consecutive year this year. The municipal government invites artistic, sports, and educational groups to participate with dances, performances, and floats.
One of this year's floats was dedicated to Alma Rosa Barragán, the mother of the current mayor, who was murdered during a campaign event in May 2021, when she was a candidate for the Citizen Movement for the municipal presidency.
After her death, the party replaced the candidate with her daughter, Alma Denisse Sánchez Barragán, who won the 2021 election and was re-elected in 2024.
