The Democratic Center announced a lawsuit against Claudia López for claiming there is evidence to convict former President Álvaro Uribe Vélez.

Gabriel Vallejo, director of the Democratic Center, announced that the group will sue former mayor and presidential candidate Claudia López for claiming evidence that former President Álvaro Uribe Vélez allegedly committed crimes.
"We will sue Claudia López for libel and slander against Álvaro Uribe Vélez," the leader stated in an interview with La FM.
And she added that the former mayor, who is currently collecting signatures to run for president in 2026, "has forgotten that Álvaro Uribe Vélez ended paramilitarism in Colombia."

Vallejo, head of the party founded by former President Álvaro Uribe in 2013, lashed out at López, saying it seemed as if the former Bogotá president "needed to commit crimes to appear in the media. It reminds me of a cow in a swamp; the more it kicks, the more it gets stuck, even if it blames the downpour."
Democratic Center members reject Claudia López's statement about Álvaro Uribe. Several members of the party rejected López's statements and reminded the former president that she supported Gustavo Petro on two occasions, although she is now trying to distance herself from the head of state.
“It's shameful that Claudia López tells us that Uribe's faction represents the extreme right and that we're willing to kill each other with the extreme left represented by Petro. She, who supported Petro twice and allowed him to become president, says Uribe won and governed with paramilitaries. Disgraceful,” asserted Senator Paola Holguín, for example.
It is shameful that Claudia López tells us that Uribe's sector represents the extreme right and that we are willing to kill each other with the extreme left that Petro represents.
" Carlos Ramón González's (now a fugitive) former political partner in the 'anti-corruption' referendum is desperate over her failed campaign and is seeking support by defaming Uribe. This is predictable for the failed partners of Petrismo," asserted House Representative Hernán Cadavid.
What did Claudia López say about Álvaro Uribe Vélez? Former Bogotá mayor Claudia López asserted this Monday, speaking to the same outlet, that "there is sufficient evidence to show that Álvaro Uribe did buy witnesses and changed testimonies to try to smear Iván Cepeda."

“Denying Álvaro Uribe's ties to parapolitics and paramilitarism is like denying Timochenko's ties to the FARC and terrorism. There is historical evidence, there is judicial evidence; what hasn't been is an independent judge to assess this. But there will be one,” the pre-candidate later asserted on her X social media account.
López's comment comes amid anticipation of the verdict against former President Álvaro Uribe in the midst of his trial for alleged witness tampering.
Specifically, Uribe recently spoke out about his legal situation and insisted that the trial was induced by the government through Senator Iván Cepeda.

"I, who have immense political responsibility, am facing a trial. I have done so with respect for justice, for the Judge. I have presented my disagreements with the Prosecutor with frankness and respect. But we cannot forget that this trial was induced by the current government, by its most representative senator," the former president asserted on his X account.
Meanwhile, the former president's family also links Santos' followers to the trial against Uribe. This was recently pointed out by Tomás, one of the president's sons.

"The accusation was driven by two prominent politicians from the Petro and Santos governments and architects of Santos' surrender to the FARC: Eduardo Montealegre, current Minister of Justice under Petro and former prosecutor in the Santos government; and Senator Cepeda, educated in the Soviet Union, political leader of the FARC, senator under the Petrismo and a key figure in Santos' surrender to the FARC and the de facto legalization of drug trafficking."
