Scandal at UADY: Fraud of 70 million pesos reported

The Autonomous University of Yucatán (UADY) is at the center of a serious scandal involving alleged fraud of 70 million pesos. An operation without official documents that allegedly channeled university funds to a private hospital is being investigated.
Mérida, Yucatán.- The Autonomous University of Yucatán (UADY), the highest educational institution in Yucatán, is under public and regulatory scrutiny after the revelation of an alleged fraud totaling 70 million pesos. The complaint, which has shocked the university community and Yucatecan society, points to an irregular operation that allegedly diverted public funds to a private hospital.
According to the journalistic investigation that uncovered the case, the transaction was allegedly carried out without official supporting documentation, raising serious suspicions about the management of university resources. The funds were allegedly channeled to the private hospital Eme Red Hospitalaria, currently known as Humanity.
The alleged embezzlement was allegedly orchestrated through a triangulation of funds. The investigation indicates that the money was transferred from UADY to the private hospital using a civil association allegedly linked to the university as an intermediary.
The key points of the complaint are:
- High Amount: The operation involves a sum of 70 million pesos, a considerable amount of the university budget.
- Lack of Documentation: The transfer was allegedly executed "without official documentation," which constitutes a serious administrative irregularity and a potential crime.
- Conflict of Interest: The involvement of a civil association allegedly linked to UADY as a vehicle for the transfer suggests a possible conflict of interest and a plot to conceal the final destination of the funds.
The scandal has generated a strong demand for transparency from students, academics, and the public at large. The UADY rector's office and oversight bodies, such as the State Audit Office, are being asked to launch a thorough investigation to determine responsibility.
"The university community deserves a clear and forceful explanation. Public resources must be managed with complete transparency and honesty. We demand a thorough investigation and punishment for those responsible for this shameful act," stated a professor at the institution.
This case adds to other allegations of financial mismanagement in state institutions, such as the recent embezzlement discovered at the Isstey (National Institute of Statistics and Census) for 39 million pesos, raising alarms about the need to strengthen controls and oversight over the use of public funds in Yucatán.
To date, UADY authorities have not issued a detailed statement on the complaint. Public pressure is mounting to clarify the fate of the 70 million pesos and to ensure that funds allocated for higher education are not diverted for private purposes.
