Germany and England sign an agreement that opens "a new chapter" in bilateral relations.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz celebrated the new bilateral treaty between their countries on Thursday, which they said opens a new chapter in British-German relations.

"This is a historic day. Today we open a new chapter in the British-German relationship," Merz said in English at the start of a joint press conference between the two leaders in Herfordshire, north of London.

For Starmer, the so-called Kensington Treaty, which the two signed earlier today, is "unprecedented" and contributes to "building the foundations of stability on the European continent" within the "dangerous world" facing the United Kingdom and Germany.
