Feijóo chooses Tellado as the new general secretary of the People's Party (PP), and Ester Muñoz will be the new spokesperson in Congress.

PP leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo announced this Wednesday that Miguel Tellado, currently the parliamentary spokesperson in Congress, will be appointed as the party's new secretary general, replacing Cuca Gamarra. The replacement will take place at the 21st national congress the PP is holding this weekend in Madrid.

Furthermore, Feijóo announced in an interview on Antena 3 that Ester Muñoz, a member of parliament from León and current Deputy Secretary of Health and Education for the People's Party (PP), will be the new spokesperson for the Popular Party in Congress, filling the vacancy left by Tellado.

This Monday, Cuca Gamarra confirmed that she will leave the position of General Secretary of the PP—a position she has held since the April 2022 congress that ended with the departure of Pablo Casado—although she will continue to be a member of the party's management committee, presumably heading the Justice department.

"It's time for a change, and I'm asking for a change," Gamarra stated at a press conference, where he defended the "need" for the "party structure to adapt to the challenges facing the PP," given the "extremely serious events" they are learning about regarding the "corruption" of the PSOE.

Now, Feijóo will bet on Tellado as his new deputy in the Popular Party, a position from which he would be responsible for preparing the party for the upcoming elections. For now, there are elections in Castile and León and Andalusia in 2026.

When Feijóo was elected president in April 2022, he endorsed Tellado as deputy secretary of organization for the PP, but he left that position in November 2023 to take over as spokesperson for the Popular Party (PP) in Congress.

Tellado has a close relationship with Feijóo and, in fact, served as his general secretary of the Galician People's Party (PP) from 2016 to 2022, when he headed the Galician regional government. Now, he could reward his loyalty by being appointed as the PP's deputy, according to various sources consulted.
