Abinader meets with Hipólito Mejía to discuss the crisis in Haiti.

At approximately 10:45 a.m., President Luis Abinader arrived at the residence of former President Hipólito Mejía to continue the dialogue regarding the crisis in Haiti and its impact on the Dominican Republic .
The meeting is part of the consultations the head of state is holding with former presidents and political leaders to formulate a national position that will allow us to jointly address the crisis .
Abinader arrived in his vehicle with a smaller than usual entourage. Beforehand, Mejía, who greeted him with his characteristic charisma , joked with journalists and the presidential team who were awaiting the president's arrival.
Mejía wore a blue jacket, while Abinader wore a white chacabana .
"I'll wear a shawl , you take it off ," the president was heard saying as he got out of the vehicle. The two mocked the differences in their clothing and joked about what had happened.
The laughter between the two was inevitable at the hilarious attitude of the man who led the nation's destiny from 2000 to 2004.
After greeting journalists and posing for photographs (as usual), Abinader and Mejía entered the residence to discuss the Haitian situation.
While taking the official photo, Abinader exclaimed: "Today is Friday."
The meetingsThis is the third meeting the president has held with his predecessors in the Executive Branch.
On June 26, Abinader visited Danilo Medina at the National House of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) and on July 3, he met with Leonel Fernández at the headquarters of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (Funglode).
These meetings stem from the joint session between President Abinader and former commanders Mejía, Fernández, and Medina, held on May 14 at the Ministry of Defense.
Through these talks, the Government seeks to strengthen a common stance in the face of the complex binational scenario and promote sustainable solutions within the framework of democratic respect and sovereignty.
In parallel with these visits, the Economic and Social Council (ESC) has held six thematic roundtables to analyze the impact of the Haitian crisis on the country.
The CES is expected to conclude the meetings of the thematic panels on July 23 and present a final report .
