"They're persecuting me for being a Peronist": Alberto Fernández criticized the courts for his prosecution in the Insurance Case.

After being prosecuted in the Insurance case , former PresidentAlberto Fernández accused the courts of " persecuting him for being a Peronist to please the media ." Judge Sebastián Casanello indicted the former president in the corruption case in which he was implicated, alleging "incompatibility with the duties of a public official."

Through his X account, the former president referred to Casanello's decision and said: " Yesterday, the Federal (in) Justice ordered my prosecution. I am no longer questioned about a decree that I signed to put an end to the cartelization and the business done with state insurance . Now, suddenly, I am being accused of not having warned of the 'risk' that naming the wife of an insurance producer as my secretary represented."

Alberto Fernández also argued that the courts " forced the interpretation of the evidence just to keep him openly linked to the case ." "As someone who believes in the Republic, even though I see the enormous crisis that republican forms are currently experiencing, I will continue to try to ensure that the Federal Court fulfills its role of dispensing justice and stops persecuting me for being a Peronist to please the media ," he concluded.

The investigation began following a report by the Prosecutor's Office for Economic Crime and Money Laundering (Procelac) regarding irregularities in 45 national government insurance contracts. In 2021, Alberto Fernández ordered all government agencies to purchase insurance services through Nación Seguros SA, a subsidiary of Banco Nación. The case began after suspicions arose that insurance brokers close to the former president's circle benefited from the scheme.

The case involved María Cantero, Fernández's Secretary General of the Presidency; her husband and friend of the then president, Héctor Martínez Sosa; and the former head of Nación Seguros, Alberto Pagliano. All of them were accused of setting up an office to allegedly defraud the state.
