Memorial Museum of the Resistance wins Ibermuseums Education Award

The Memorial Museum of the Dominican Resistance ( MMRD ) received the Ibermuseums Education Award for its "Proudly Alive" project, an initiative that seeks to highlight the memory of the protagonists of the Dominican resistance and promote education in local communities.

The award, presented during the 13th Ibermuseums Education Prize , recognizes Ibero-American museums for their educational work and their commitment to historical memory and social justice. This year, ten projects were selected as winners, from countries including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Spain, Mexico, Portugal, the Dominican Republic, and Uruguay. Each winning project received €5,000 in funding.

The " Proudly Living on the Street " project aims to bring communities closer to the history of Dominican resistance fighters who gave their names to streets in their localities, especially women and little-known victims, thus promoting education about the struggle for freedom and human rights, the MMRD said in a press release.

"Many communities are unaware of the origin of their street names. With this program, the MMRD rescues historical memory and promotes civic awareness ," the museum emphasized.

The award reaffirms the role of the MMRD as a benchmark in heritage education and the dissemination of historical memory , consolidating its impact on Dominican society and the Ibero-American region.
