Measles cases detected in two schools in Zapopan

The Jalisco Ministry of Education confirmed that two cases of measles were detected in schools in the municipality of Zapopan.

The State Secretary of Education, Juan Carlos Flores, confirmed the situation and indicated that groups where a case has been detected are sent home.

“Let’s just remember that the instruction from the Ministry of Health is that if a single case occurs in the group, only that group is suspended, sanitized, and they go 14 days in distance to monitor those children and the other members of their family,” the official said.

On the other hand, he mentioned that there are schools where in-person classes are resuming, for example, in the municipalities of Arandas or Tlaquepaque.

"We have already resumed in-person classes in Arandas; the 7 groups in the 7 schools that had been suspended because a child was infected in each one, resumed in-person classes this Monday. We are expecting the school in Tlaquepaque to return at the end of this week."

To prevent infections, vaccination campaigns are being deployed in schools, which have had a good response, according to the Secretary of Education.

According to the Federal Health Ministry, there are a total of 5,089 measles infections in the country.
