The government announced a $250 million wind farm in Olavarría under the RIGI (Renewable Energy and Natural Gas) project to generate 180 MW.

The government announced the construction of a $250 million wind farm in Olavarría , under the Large Investment Incentive Scheme ( RIGI ). The Olavarría Wind Farm , to be developed by PCR and Acindar , will have a capacity of 180 megawatts and will provide clean energy to the national industry.
Economy Minister Luis Caputo explained that this is the seventh investment approved under the RIGI. He also emphasized that the project will strengthen renewable energy generation and improve the competitiveness of ArcelorMittal Acindar plants.

This wind farm will reduce carbon emissions from industrial production. In the initial phase, it will generate 180 MW, primarily for use in steel plants. This will increase the energy efficiency and sustainability of their processes.
According to the Ministry of Economy, the RIGI has accumulated investment commitments exceeding US$9.25 billion . This regime offers tax and legal benefits to those who submit projects for more than US$200 million . These benefits include income tax reductions, rapid VAT refunds, and exemptions from withholding taxes and import duties.
Caputo also emphasized that these tools facilitate capital inflows. "It's an investment that combines industrial development with environmental protection," he stated on social media.
The Large Investment Incentive Regime seeks to attract large-scale projects in sectors such as energy, mining, and infrastructure. Although it has received criticism for its tax advantages, it has already approved seven high-impact projects.
For Javier Milei 's government, the Olavarría Wind Farm confirms the program's continued capacity to attract interest. Furthermore, he maintains that this type of project diversifies the energy mix, reduces dependence on fossil fuels, and improves industry competitiveness.
With this new approval, the RIGI is positioned as a key tool for attracting private investment. It does so by combining infrastructure, technology, and renewable energy generation in different regions of the country.
