The Extremadura-based company Bodegas Medina has filed for bankruptcy due to a debt of 2 million euros.

Bodegas Medina de Puebla de Sancho Pérez (Badajoz) has entered into bankruptcy proceedings for a debt of 2 million euros , mainly to banks. To date, the company owes nothing to its employees, suppliers, the Treasury, or the Security, according to statements made by the company to elEconomista .
As they have highlighted, it was the company itself that proposed it voluntarily , because the intention is to continue working for the viability of the company. Its brands Jaloco and Marqués de Badajoz have been the flagship of this winery that was founded in 1931 and in recent years has diversified its business by holding events.
It was one of the first wineries to market outside of Extremadura , and was highly regarded in Andalusia. Today, its wines are sold throughout Europe, with Germany, Japan, and Scandinavia being its main international destinations.
However, since the pandemic, the company has not been achieving the good results it has usually maintained, and according to the company, this voluntary competition is a tool to continue working for the future of these Extremadura wines.
This winery is registered in the Ribera del Guadiana Designation of Origin , and its wines have been recognized on several occasions with medals in the traditional Espigas awards organized each year by Caja Rural de Extremadura, thus rewarding the good work of this fourth generation of winemakers.
