The national rice farmers' strike continues. The organizing committee is awaiting a response to the letter sent to the Ministry of Agriculture proposing the establishment of a negotiating table to lift the blockades that remain in place in some departments across the country.

In the letter, the rice producers request the in-person participation of the Ministers of Agriculture and Commerce , as well as one of the deputy ministers of the Ministry of Finance.
"With the establishment and formal opening of this committee, we producers commit to progressively easing the closing hours of the road corridors currently underway during the strike, thus facilitating greater mobility for citizens, without abandoning our just struggle for the sustainability of rice in Colombia," the document states.
The strike leaders had already announced that the blockades would not be lifted until a meeting with the National Government was held to discuss and establish structural solutions to address the current crisis facing the sector.
"Rice producers cannot continue to wait while dialogue is conditioned on the complete lifting of the strike, as this negates the basic principle of consensus. The country needs urgent and real solutions, and rice, an essential food on the Colombian table, cannot continue to be abandoned," the letter states.
The rice farmers' call, which motivated this mobilization , focuses on the request for measures aimed at establishing fair prices for locally produced rice, as well as effective regulation of production and marketing.
