MTU will come into effect in October and will protect your bank transfers.

On October 1, 2025 , the User Transaction Amount (UTA) will go into effect for all bank transfers in Mexico. This measure, promoted by the CNBV ( National Commission for the Promotion of Financial Transactions), seeks to strengthen the security of financial transactions and protect account holders against potential fraud.
The MTU establishes a maximum daily limit for transfers per person using internet, telephone, or mobile services. The goal is to prevent fraud and enable a rapid response to unrecognized transactions.
Each user must define their MTU, either:
- By consulting your bank branch.
- Through electronic means such as online banking or mobile apps.
If the user doesn't set a limit, the bank will assign a default estimated amount , ensuring all accounts are protected. Users will have until July 2026 to define their final figure.
In the event of an unrecognized transaction , the account holder may file a claim. The financial institution must respond and pay the transaction within 48 hours , ensuring the security of the funds and the peace of mind of users.
This measure seeks to strengthen trust in digital banking and reduce the risk of fraud by ensuring that each transfer is backed by a security threshold clearly defined by the user.
