Larry Ellison surpasses Elon Musk as the world's richest person on the Bloomberg list.

NEW YORK, New York - Entrepreneur Larry Ellison became the world's richest person on Wednesday after the value of Oracle , the technology giant he co-founded, surged on Wall Street , according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index .

The fortune of Ellison, 81, who is chairman and chief technology officer of Oracle , soared by $101 billion at 10:10 a.m. New York time (2:10 p.m. GMT) after his company announced the day before the awarding of several multi-million-dollar contracts in its latest quarter.
