Frisby Spain defines the 12 cities where it will open its restaurants despite the dispute with Frisby Colombia: 'Breaking the rules'

Frisby Spain announced it is moving forward with its plan to open restaurants amid a dispute with Frisby Colombia over the use of the trademark in Europe . The Spanish company has already determined where it will open its restaurants.

It's worth remembering that Frisby Spain has been accused by the Frisby Colombia restaurant chain of "misuse of its brand" in Europe.

The Colombian company, founded in Pereira 48 years ago and currently present in 280 restaurants and 60 municipalities across the country, is pursuing legal action against the Spanish company. However, the foreign company has stated that it is the "owner" of the trademark before the European Union.

Frisby Spain announced on August 7 that it will be opening 12 restaurants in the country . Ten of them will be dark kitchens , i.e., stores that only offer home delivery; while the other two will be flagship stores or its largest establishments with more extensive services.

According to him, the restaurants will be located in:

"This year, we're reaching 12 cities. With the flavors you've been waiting for... breaking the rules and codes," the company stated.

Frisby Colombia turned to an international law firm to take appropriate action against the so-called Frisby Spain in Europe.

"We fully trust in the legal actions that European legislation allows us to take, and we will pursue this path with rigor and responsibility," he added.

Because it is "an ongoing legal process" that is "strictly confidential" regarding the use of its brand in Spain, the Colombian restaurant chain said it will provide more details when possible.

However, Frisby Spain has not halted its plans and has expressed its "astonishment" at the requests it has received from the Colombian restaurant chain's lawyers .

"Frisby España reaffirms its willingness to comply with the extrajudicial procedure required by Spanish law, while firmly preparing its defense, convinced that any impartial court would resoundingly reject the claims made," it said in a statement issued in July.

For now, it is known that Frisby Colombia has until September 17, 2025, to demonstrate the use of the trademark in Europe , as part of a procedure it is undergoing before the European Union Intellectual Property Office (Euipo).
